My recipient and her husband gave me these beautiful flowers when I met them for the first time.

Rachel: I've been thinking about living liver donation since I was a medical student, and I finally got the courage this year to move forward. I was privileged to meet my recipient, and she shared that, during the same month I started my evaluation, she had a dream in which an angel came to her and told her not to worry, she would receive a liver. She felt at peace after that dream and was no longer burdened by fear and anxiety. I've always been fascinated by angels so I did some research and found that Archangel Raphael is known as the angel of healing and is associated with green light. The rod of Asclepius is the symbol for medicine and healthcare. This image represents the intersection of the divine and modern medicine  my experience with living donation. My recipient is Spanish speaking, so I am honoring her by including Spanish words in this image.

Elizabeth: My sister has always encouraged me to be a donor, starting with blood and platelet donation to being an organ donor when I die. While I probably will not be donating my liver to a stranger I am honored to have a sister who was brave enough and willing to sacrifice to save someone else's life. This image represents all those involved in both receiving  and donating. It is a privilege to be able to design this image with my sister and have such a good example in my life to encourage me to walk in her footsteps and donate life where my life enables.
